EOFY or June 30th is fast approaching. It is a time as business owners that we reflect on what worked, what didn't and if the time we invested in our businesses was worth it.

'The Voice' has attracted a huge viewing audience in Australia. I am one of those who have captivated by the contestants, their amazing voices and of course the mentors. Their passion and drive to achieve their dream is amazing to watch as they push themselves outside their comfort zones.

A gift can be used to say so much more than Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Anniversary, Congratulations. I have been using gifts to draw attention and stand out from the crowd with amazing results.

It seems that our mailboxes both email and land are filling faster and faster with what is referred to as 'junk mail'. That term alone conjeres up an unwelcome response. Is there a better way to attract attention and be noticed?

In this current economic climate customers are gold, especially loyal ones. So what are you doing to make sure they feel appreciated and valued?

Valentines day is traditionally a time for couples to show their appreciationa and devotion to each other through romantic gestures and gifts. Christmas is the time of year that we are "making a list and checking it twice, because we want to find out who's naughty or nice". I have been thinking about how this applies to the business world. 

I had a clean out on the weekend and found over $800.00 in unclaimed gift vouchers. Sounds crazy I know. While gift vouchers sound like a great idea for the giver are they really appreciated by the receiver?

What is the difference between a product and a service? Is there a difference? What constitutes a service based business?

Last week we had a taste of spring and didn't it feel great. You could almost smell the spring flowers and see people's spirits lift. Everyone has been saying what a cold wet winter we had and it certainly felt like it. In the midst of the cold days it was hard to imagine being warm again, but it's coming.

This month I have been thinking about what's in my mailbox. I'm not talking the email one but the old fashioned front of the house snail mail kind. Mine is most often filled with bills and junk mail, not very exciting stuff.

My husband always says that I am good at spending money. So I thought I'd put this gift to work and share my top 10 ways to spend your left over profits before the end of the financial year.

1. Have a business makeover and while your at it throw in a makeover for yourself.
2. Make a donation to your favourite charity. Here's a great one Andrew Masi is cycling in the Les Dix Alpes cycling challenge, raising money for The Oncology Childrens Foundation.
3. Take a holiday but make sure you call it a business planning trip.
4. Give an EOFY (end of financial year) gift to your favourite clients. You'll stand out from the Christmas rush of gifts. Wrapped to you have some great gift ideas, check out website
5. Look at your stationary needs. Do you need more printing done or need to produce a report. WHO printing do a fantastic and speedy job
6. Plan a Christmas in July event for your clients and staff, away from the 'silly season'
7. Reward your team for all their efforts this financial year. Plan a social event or give them a gift
8. Organise team building events for your staff. How about a spa day, theatre nights, trip to the vineyards 9. Buy something bigger or better
10. Shop till you drop then give the receipts to your bookkeeper or accountant and let them creatively turn them into tax deductions

Disclaimer: your accountant is the best judge on what is REALLY a tax deduction so talk to them.

I have been reflecting lately on some parenting advice that I was given…..catch your kids being good and reward that behaviour. This got me to thinking about how to apply that advice to the workplace. A lot of what we do in business is about providing a fantastic service, building great relationships with our clients and keeping your business “top of mind”

What an amazing Year!

We are beginning to move through the final weeks of 2010 and look forward to another Christmas. Doesn’t it feel like the skates are on and we are flying down the home straight, hopefully for a relaxing and restful Christmas.

If you have then you have probably noticed the Christmas trees, decorations and gifts filling the shops. How did you feel……..did you get a sense of excitement or dread?

I have been pondering this month the role of the internet in business growth. It is true to say that the internet has certainly opened the doors of businesses to the world, 24hours a day, 7 days a week. These open doors bring new clients and new opportunities for growth. 

But BEWARE your clients are also surfing the net. Maybe they are looking at your competitors websites. How loyal are they to you and your business?
