I have just spent the weekend at the Sydney trade show and had the pleasure of having lunch with an innovative business owner who has client appreciation nailed. I was so inspired by her wisdom that I want to share it with you all.

She doesn't call her customers clients, they are called guests. Their experience in her store is that EVERY guest is treated as a VIP. They are welcomed with a cup of hebal tea. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. No-one feels like they have interrupted anything - you know those moments when you feel like an inconvenience, you may have interrupted a phone call or a facebook entry. Each guest feels they are the person of the moment and given undivided attention. This carries right through to how the bag containing their purchased items is handed to the guest. She actually trains her staff how to do this.

Do you think she has loyal customers? She certainly does growing from a kitchen in her home to 2 stores, a 1,000 square metre manufacturing building and numerous well trained staff.

I am remembering something my mum always told me 'treat people the way you like to be treated'. This is good advice in business and I am sure will separate one business from another. In my business I don't want to give good service I want to give EXCELLENT service, something that is more than people expect. Having a client appreciation program in place is a great way to do this.
